Happy Earth Day!

Earth Day was founded by Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson, after he had seen the effects of a large oil spill in Santa Barbara, CA. Together with Congressman Pete McCloskey, Senator Nelson coordinated a “national teach-in on the environment.” On April 22nd, 1970, millions of Americans from coast to coast held organized rallies and protests against environmental deterioration. Shortly after this successful show of support for the environment, the United States Environmental Protection Agency was crated and the Clean Air, Clean Water, and Endangered Species Acts were passed.

I thought I’d celebrate Earth Day by reminding you all to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Repurpose.

Here are some interesting ways people have found to repurpose or reuse old items:

2 - lightbulb candles

Lightbulb into candles, from the Recycled Light Company

3 - bike wheel clock

Bicycle Clock, from Pixelthis on Etsy

4 - TV aquarium

TV into aquarium, from

vespa chair modified

Vespa motorcycle into chair, from

1 - drums made out of barrels

wine barrels to drum set, from

    Good Morning, Nut!

Oh my…fish in the television set. Like that one.

    Hugs and chocolate,

  2. Great reminders. We waste so much.

  3. That bicycle clock is seriously cool.

    Happy Earth Day to you!

  4. The TV aquarium is hilarious! Bet that would cause many double takes.

  5. mooderino says:

Let’s hope we can keep the lights on for a few more years. If we have to turn to solar power we could be in trouble in the UK.

  6. Happy Earth Day to you too, Nutschell! :) I love the tv aquarium, how funny.

And thanks for the Tarot giveaway, I entered as it sounds like something fun and also interesting. I love to try new things like this. Thanks for the opportunity!

    Happy Earth Day!

I love those lightbulb candles! I’m always looking for ideas like this for how to reuse things for my post-apocalyptic novel. :)

  8. Netta says:

I absolutely love that TV aquarium idea. :)

Thanks for stopping to see us at Allegories of the Tarot and commenting!

  9. ML Swift says:

Such inventive pieces of art! The giveaway would never load for me…I’ll try to remember to get back by and enter.

Wonderful way to celebrate Earth Day, Nutschell. One man’s trash…

  10. Jodie says:

Cool ideas. I’d like to burn light bulbs. Perhaps you can melt the entire thing, craft your own new light bulb from that, and start the process over indefinitely. Anyways, it gave me points so for honesty sake, I need to make a comment of why I need the tarot card reading. I don’t. I have no idea what Tarot cards are, I just think horoscopes are the vaguely specific paragraphs you find in the Sunday newspaper and a friend knows like a bagillion things about astrology and I have yet to verify where she’s getting all that interesting information from. So I figure she would enjoy a tarot card reading :)

  11. Al Diaz says:

I think the aquarium is fantastic. I would like to have one. :)

  12. Love the Vespa chair! Love all of them, really.

  13. Gina says:

This is a great reminder to not waste our resources.

  14. deniz says:

Such neat ideas. I’d love to have that drum set!
I see lots of jewellery made out of recycle metal, some of it is very pretty.

  15. Trisha says:

Earth Day is a great thing! If only every day was Earth Day, though :)

  16. Nick Wilford says:

Those are awesome! I want the TV aquarium. My stepdaughter made a load of old bike wheels into a sculpture at her dad’s house. They’re all connected via chains so turning one wheel makes them all turn. Reusing is a great way to be creative!

  17. Where I am living your only option to dispose of grass clippings and other garden waste is to throw it in the trash bin. This didn’t make sense to me at all so the husband cat procured an old bin at work that was also going to be thrown out. In the next couple days we’re going to drill holes into it and turn it into a compost bin. :)
